BRAINSTORM
– a sudden state of being unable to think clearly.
Project Brainstorm is analog experimental camera-less photography. The theme and title of the project are related to epilepsy – a brain disorder causing seizures. Photographs are visual interpretations of personal epileptic auras. Epilepsy is somewhat stigmatised, and even if it is a bit intimidating, I want to present it in a beautiful way.
The content of the project is quite personal, however, the emphasis on the used alternative technique is equal. All of the prints are created using hand-made negatives which are used in the darkroom to expose light-sensitive photographic paper. The ending results are abstract photographs, consisting of colourful shapes on a black background. The difference in layer thickness leads to the variation of colour brightness, saturation and transparency.
